(Australian Shepherd and Papillon mix) The Austi-Pap likes to have a purpose. When the herding side of the parent breed is dominant they may be a bit nippy with small children. So a house with older children may be best. The Papillon influence can create a somewhat timid dog prone to barking at strangers and unexpected noises.
add infoThe Austi-Pap is an intelligent dog. They are generally an obedient dog. The Australian Shepherd parent requires lots of activity, where the Papillon tends to be more of an indoor dog. The coat is usually wavy and shedding is moderate.
add infoThis cross breed generally shouldn\'t have health issues that are known to the larger parent breed. Possible issues with the eyes may be of special note such as; Collie Eye Anomoly, Cataracts, etc.
add infoThe Austi-Pap is a newer designer breed, so history is not available. The parent breed, the Australian Shepherd was brought into being to herd. The Papilon is one of the oldest breeds known to man. They date back about 700 years where they were bred in France.
add infoDepending on which parent breed is dominant, brushing can be required daily - a couple of times per week. Dental hygiene, as with all dogs, should be included on a regular basis.
add infoPredominately an indoor dog as this hybrid could have serious barking tendencies. This hybrid is a cross of high energy to moderate energy. You will need to determine how much stimulation is required. A high energy dog without enough stimulation, can become destructive.
